Digital euro – what is it and why do we need it?

Central banks around the world are busy looking into central bank digital currency (CBDC). There is a digital euro project under way in the euro area.

But what exactly is CBDC and what do we need it for? After all, we’ve all been making payments digitally for ages now. And what would the digital euro mean for consumers, banks and the financial system? Journalist and presenter Eva Schulz will be discussing these very questions in a workshop with Burkhard Balz of the Bundesbank’s Executive Board.
